Mckayla's book

McKayla brought home a book from school that she was supposed to read to three people. She read the book to me then Ky said it was his turn, but Alina freaked out because it was her turn. She sat there and had McKayla read the book to her three times.

First Day of School

So today was McKayla's first day of school and what a sad day it has been so far
(well, for me at least) She has been so excited all week and was ready to go this morning. She did get a little nervous when we got up to her classroom, but went right in anyway.

Tortellini with Cream, butter and cheese

This is really similar to the Alfredo recipe that I posted a couple of weeks ago, and is really good and unlike the Alfredo recipe this one is really healthy! (HA)

1 lb fresh tortellini
4 tbs butter
1 1/4 c heavy cream
3/4 c grated Parmesan
Freshly grated nutmeg
salt and pepper to taste

-Cook the pasta according to package directions
-Melt the butter in a medium sauce pan and stir in the cream. Bring to a boil and cook for 2-3 minutes until mixture is slightly thickened, stirring frequently. Add Parmesan, stirring continuously over a moderate heat until all of it has melted. Season to taste with nutmeg, salt and pepper.
-Drain the pasta well and spoon into a buttered heatproof serving dish. Pour the sauce over, sprinkle with more Parmesan cheese and place preheated oven, cook until brown and bubbling on top. (I cooked it at 400 for about 20 minutes)

Proud Parents

McKayla went for a kindergarten assessment today so they could determine what class to put each child in. When she was done I was told that she is very, very advanced and there are only a few other kids who are at her level. So out of 90 or so kids McKayla is, well you do the math. I'm sure it is common among mothers to constantly worry about teaching their children. The thought is always in the back of my head of whether or not I have taught my children enough, there is so much to learn between academics, church, social skills etc etc, etc that I constantly worry whether I have done a good job or not. So, I know we always think that our kids are the best, but mine really is and it is nice to have that confirmed by someone other than me. And it is nice to know that as a mother I have done an acceptable job teaching my child something. Who knows, maybe my children have a chance after all.

It runs in the family

It is a well know fact that I am very OCD about a lot of things, but what some of you may not know is that I have passed it on to my children. This is how Alina plays. Everything she does has some sort of order or "system" to it. Just so you are aware of the work this took, each side of the block is different, she had to arrange them this way.

This is Fashion

Alina is sporting this seasons newest trend: An Easter hat, shin guards (or knee shins as she calls them) Red dress shoes with the tags still on and who could forget the fashionable baby toy rings. All of this is accented with a green snake coming out of her shirt. Alina thanks McKayla, the fashion genius, for coming up with this perfect summer outfit.

A little Bizarre!

So while eating dinner tonight things got a little bizarre. First Alina broke out in song. Her song of choice, Neil Diamond's "Song Sung Blue." So of course Ky joins in, then McKayla, So I was the only one left not singing. Then I mentioned to Ky that I should have cut the recipes in half at which point Alina starts screaming "No, I don't want to be cut in half." So then we mentioned something about cousins coming to visit and Alina said "I have a cousin that I go on walks with that I go walking with." (Alina has an imaginary cousin) So we ask her if she knows her imaginary cousins name, which she does not. McKayla asks if he has blond hair, no, apparently it is gray. McKayla's next question, "does he have facial hair?" Is this starting to sound like a children's game, maybe guess who? The one questions I have remaining after all this is; do my children really think I am so mean that I would actually cut them in half?
